In an interview with Business Daily, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba opened up about how the attention during the election week had caught him by surprise. “I’ve been in town for the last two and a half years and nobody has paid me a passing glance,” he told the writer.
When asked about what he thought about his nickname “Chilobae”, the CEO said that the tag wasn’t really new to him. “….Want to know what my private e-mail address has always been? It’s Chiloba with an “e” at the end,” He said, “So I guess I have always been Chilobae”.
To him, he was glad all this had happened because it showed that a younger generation were now more involved in the electoral process unlike the past.
He however said that on the flip side, he no longer enjoyed private life and that the whole conversation had created so much speculation about his family. He pointed out to false information about his wife and marriage that had been doing rounds on the internet singling out a picture that shows him with a woman in wedding ceremony. “That is not my wife,” he commented. “I was in a wedding two years ago as the best man and the lady—an MP’s wife, was the best maid.”
Chiloba is happily married with two kids and plans to spend the next few months relaxing. “…I want to take a holiday, spend time with family, go back to doing what I used to do with friends I still have. I want to watch my daughter play with her two dogs.”
He also clarified that he has not married into the Kenyatta family contrary to rumors and had never even met Jomo Gecaga who had allegedly given him the job.
His interview comes a few days after ladies went gaga over the CEO thanks to his good looks and eloquence. Most memorable was his ”Form tharee four b” line during the IEBC updates on the elections that was highly quoted online.
During the election week Ezra Chiloba’s name, memes and pictures dominated WhatsApp groups, Facebook and trended on Twitter for about two days.
