Turkish Ambassador to Kenya Subutay Yuksel has said his country will assist Kenya to achieve climate change programmes.
Speaking during a courtesy call on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula in Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, Yuksel said climate change was a global concern and all nations must take an active role to secure the future of their citizens.
The Ambassador lauded Kenyans for conducting a peaceful General Election and smooth handover of power from former President Uhuru Kenyatta to President William Ruto, saying the country has set a good example for other African states.
"Turkey is keen on bilateral engagements with Kenya which are doing well so far with the commitment of President Recep Erdogan and President William Ruto, we will be exploring more areas of close collaboration going forward, especially in investment and trade," said Yuksel.
Mr Wetang'ula said the two countries have enjoyed cordial relations over the years especially on parliamentary diplomacy through an active Parliamentary Friendship Group with Turkey dating back to the 10th Parliament, which has been active throughout the 11th and 12th Parliaments.
The Speaker promised to ensure the good relations between the parliaments of Kenya and Turkey continue to exist for the next five years for the mutual good of the citizens of the two nations.
Wetang'ula requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to furnish his office with details on the bilateral agreements that had been entered into by Kenya and Turkey that required ratification by the National Assembly that had been noted by the Ambassador.
"The 10th Parliament saw a milestone in the establishment of a Parliamentary Caucus between our two legislatures in order to enhance the parliamentary relations which is a clear indicator that Kenya and Turkey have enjoyed good relations over the years," he said.
The Speaker said MPs from the two countries should be encouraged to carry out benchmarking so as to learn from each other's experiences.
