Agricultural scholars from the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) have debunked myths about the use of GMO seeds among Western region farmers.
They stated during a presentation titled "The Implication of GMO Crop Approval for Farmers in Western Kenya" that these Genetically Modified Organisms crops did not pose diverse agricultural challenges.
"GMOs have the potential to boost the yield on a small plot of land. This allows our farmers to profit, which improves their livelihoods," said Dr. Sylvester Anami.
"GMOs are not the only solution to food security; they are a supplement to existing agricultural practises such as organic farming and conventional breeding," he adds.
