5 reasons why you should not rush into marriage

Living

Everyone seems to get hitched left, right and center. Is it that some of us are doing the wrong thing? I bet a number of people are asking themselves this very question. Believe it or not, there is a time for everything. Do not rush into getting hitched just because everyone is doing it.

This is why you should not rush into marriage:

1. Marriage is a union for a lifetime

You should take your sweet time. This is not to say that you should shun potentials in the name of taking your time. Spend your time doing what you love or even bettering yourself. You may enroll in some sort of class to improve on your skills, this may be of help in the long run. You should always keep yourself busy.

2. Your partner comes first

There are a number of responsibilities that come with marriage. Firstly, you are expected to be at the beck and call of your partner.  This means that you have to put your needs and wants last. In addition, you are meant to be at your best behavior at all times.

3. Once hitched, you have to let go of some habits

If you are a party animal be ready to kiss that life bye-bye. It will never be the same again.  It is believed that with marriage comes maturity. Partying is considered immature and selfish whereby money is spent on oneself in just having fun. In this case, a partner is considered mature when he or she is doing something beneficial for the family.

4. Your money is no longer yours alone but it becomes ‘ours’

Be ready to share your money. Marriage brings two people together therefore your monies are also supposed to come together.  There is no such thing as ‘my money’. You should be ready to share your financial secrets.

5. Children are a lifetime commitment

Ideally once hitched, kids are the next step. That is a commitment that has no divorce or separation. Getting your life together and planning for the future of your offspring is yet another reason why marriage should not be rushed into. As D’banj, Nigerian musician, says in one of his songs, ‘Do not get it twisted love is a beautiful thing’. Indeed, love is beautiful therefore open your heart to love. However, marriage is more than just love. It requires you to give your all. For all the married fellas, I hope you are enjoying every bit of this amazing institution. On the other hand, the single ladies and men out there should really think things through before walking down the aisle because marriage is not a bed of roses.
