The beauty of braiding
 Lupita Nyong’o:The beauty of braiding

Last week, our Hollywood girl Lupita Nyongo, stepped on the red carpet looking stunning.

She had a beautiful outfit but what stood out the most was her hair.

It was braided, and the real African in her was written all over her look.

Her look was controversial but bottom line, she looked hot.

I can, however, assure you a number of women will be sporting the look in the streets if they have not started yet.

Braiding is more of an African trend and it, for a long time, offered an opportunity for women to socialise as the hair was braided.

Lupita’s look just rubber-stamped the fact that one can certainly look beautiful in braids. So, step aside Brazilian, Peruvian, Indian and the oh!-so-plastic weaves in the market. Braiding has just acquired a new status.

Braiding your hair certainly boosts your appearance making you look cool and beautiful. Braids are easy to wear and maintain, and you have a choice of wearing them in different styles that can be suitable from classroom, to the boardroom.

Yes, they sometimes take long to make but once done, they do not need so much care and they can stay on for a while.

It is a look that can be worn by women of any age and for any occasion from casual to formal.

Braiding your hair gives it a well-deserved break from the daily stress of heating and styling.

Braiding also protects the hair from developing split ends; in essence saving you a reasonable amount of money and time you would have spent in the salon.

If you decide to braid your hair on a regular basis, using the right braid sheens and oils, you will have given it a break from regular washing, which can be harmful to your hair.

Braids are great for children too, as they keep their hair neat without having them cry every day from the pain of combing.

One thing to note, however, is that it does not mark an end to washing the hair. You still need to wash it; only that it will not be as regular as it would if your hair was not braided.
