Instead of always throwing out leftovers, you can creatively make out meals out of your leftovers. This will you will avoid throwing out perfectly good healthy food.

It’s prudent to note that while some leftovers get better with age and can easily be repurposed, there are others that require complete transformation and be turned into different meals altogether.

Here are a few go-to ideas for turning leftovers into meals:

Be purposeful

When thinking about your meals, you need to also think about the extras they can become. For instance, if you cook twice the vegetables you need for tonight’s dinner, you will have something to start with later on in the week when you’ll be preparing a soup.

You can always anticipate using your leftovers and boldly cook twice as much food and freeze the extra for later use.

Smartly store your leftovers

A good way to go is using transparent food containers, glass would be a good option since they are reusable and sustainable. The transparent containers allows you see what’s inside and you are less likely to lose track of your leftovers.

Also, you can opt to label and date the containers so that you can readily keep track of just how long they have stayed in your fridge - how soon you need to consume them.

Leftovers night

You can decide on one day a week to get down to eating food stocked in the fridge. A good day would be when you find that your fridge is chocking with food containers filled with leftovers from several days.

Dinner-cum-lunch

When preparing dinner, you can stash a portion in a container and put it aside for the following day’s lunch. This way you can easily find worthy and healthy take-it-to-work lunches with no extra effort, just a bit of planning.

Vegetables into soup

Leftovers of the steamed vegetables you served as a side dish during dinner can make good soup for your next meal.

All you need is to puree them in a blender with a few cups of, say chicken broth, and add in some salt and pepper to taste and you have your soup!
