Amanda Gorman becomes first person to perform a poem during the Super Bowl

Amanda Gorman performed during the LV Super Bowl game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers held on February 7 to become the first person to ever perform an original poem during the game.

In her original piece titled Chorus of the Captains, Gorman, 22, saluted three honorees whose works have been phenomenal, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The three – veteran James Martin, teacher Trimaine Davis and ICU nurse Suzie Dorner – were last wek named honorary captains by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Activist and poet Gorman was the first ever National Youth Poet Laureate and the youngest poet to ever perform at a presidential inauguration in the US.

She became a viral sensation when she performed her original poem, The Hill We Climb, at President Biden’s inauguration.
