NAIROBI: Most candidates who excel in their national examinations more often than not attribute it to hard work, discipline and prayer.
But the top performers at Moi Educational Centre, Nairobi cited a fourth reason — and that is teamwork — as a contributing factor to their good grades in last year’s KCPE examinations released on Wednesday.
Tresor Birhange and Daniel Ngira, who both scored 441 marks, and Triza Aduda, who had 437 marks, attributed their success largely to working together.
“I expected to perform well, but I did not expect to be among the leading candidates in the country. I performed exceedingly well due to the joint revision we held with my colleagues,” said young Birhange.
“I sacrificed sleep and even watching TV to revise to better my grades, and I am happy the sacrifice has finally paid off. I hope to join Alliance High and be a cardiologist in future,” Birhange added.
“We worked closely with my classmates. We studied together from the start of the year. I am happy we are reaping the fruits of working together as a team,” added Ngira.
“I expect to join Alliance High, and later study architecture,” he said.
An overjoyed Aduda, who was the first girl in the school was lost for words. The 14-year-old girl hopes to join Alliance Girls and become a civil engineer in future.
