Rebound sex: why you should not try it

Relationships

A breakup is something that most people experience at least once in their lifetime. When it happens, there is a period where you feel angry, disappointed and heartbroken and that can push you to do just about anything to feel better.

A common thing people do during the first stages of a breakup is have rebound sex. This is when you choose to have sex with someone new, as some sort of healing process.

While there are many people who try to push the idea that it’s completely okay to have rebound sex, the downside of it all outweighs the ‘benefits’.

There are definitely better and more effective ways to heal which can save you from more pain and the negative effects of rebound sex.

Here is why you should really kill this idea if you find yourself at this stage in life.

It’s meaningless

A healthy relationship can never thrive if it’s built on a shaky foundation. Although some people say they managed to start a wonderful relationship from a situation where rebound sex was involved, it usually doesn’t work out well for most people.

Rushing into sex immediately after a breakup doesn’t do much to deal with the real issue. It’s far better to choose healthier and safer ways to cope with these conflicting emotions.

It can completely destroy relationships

The emotional struggles after a breakup are never easy to absorb. Whether you’re the one that ended the relationship or not. During that season, you might choose to jump into bed with a friend who has always had a crush on you but after a while, you will leave a trail of broken hearts and broken friendships.

You might also decide to sleep with someone who was close to your ex-partner for revenge or whatever justification you may give, and now there’s a lesser chance of any reconciliation if you were hoping to get back together in future.

Clearly, there is a lot to lose.

The regrets always come

At first, rebound sex might make you think that you’re feeling great. But when you give it some time, you will start to feel like you should have given yourself more time to heal instead of making rushed emotional decisions.

Rebound sex is all about the now and you don’t know how you will feel about it in future. Those regrets can put a lot of pressure on your mental health as well, which isn’t something you want to add to what you’re already dealing with.

There are many health risks involved

When you aren’t in the right emotional state, you’re not yourself. There is a higher chance of making careless mistakes like having unprotected sex with multiple people especially when alcohol or other drugs are involved.

You might know about all the precautions to take but at that moment, you decide to have sex with one person who has an STD and expose yourself to it.

There is also the risk of collecting soul ties which has more lasting impact on you. And the more your body count increases the less chances you have in scoring a good partner because no one wants to commit to a whore.

It can ruin your reputation

One wrong decision can tarnish your name for a very long time. You definitely don’t want to be known for being promiscuous or cheap.

As much as it’s important to not put so much emphasis on what people think about you, at the back of your mind you still care and once you damage your own reputation, you will have to carry that shame for the rest of your life.

It’s just best to avoid it because meaningless sex can limit your chances of networking or building healthy relationships in future.
