A desperate mum who struggled to solve her daughter's maths homework left fellow parents baffled after she asked for their help.

The woman took to Facebook to ask for a mathematician who could solve her daughter's tricky maths question after she admitted she had no idea how to tackle it.

She shared a snap of the algebra question in the group Family Lockdown Tips & Ideas, alongside the plea: "Are there any mathematicians out there who can help with my daughter's homework?

"She can't remember how to do b) and it's been 26 years since I did any maths" reported The Sun.

Members of the group rushed to offer their help, with some even sharing hand-written snaps of their methods.

A popular solution among members was that the answer is "X to the power of 2 over 3", but this confused people more.

"If I wasn’t confused enough reading the question I’m now even more confused reading the answers?! Power?!?! 2/3 of an X !!! But what the hell is X?!" exclaimed one person.

While another joked: "What age do they do this? Just curious so I know when its time to kick them out."

But even with all of the suggestions, no one could agree on a definitive answer, forcing the woman to look elsewhere.

YouTube and apps like Photomaths which help to solve math-based problems were her last option.

A teacher who saw the post commented and suggested that their top tip would be to leave it unsolved and tell the teacher that she didn't understand it, that way she'd be taught how it should be completed.

They went on to say that they'd rather a pupil turn up with unfinished homework and a willingness to learn rather than a piece of work that had been completed by a tonne of strangers on Facebook.
