We have all experienced nausea one too many times. The feeling can be described as unsettling and very upsetting to the body. You may get nausea from consistent motion sickness, during a workout or when you have too much on your mind.

The easiest explanation to nausea is that your digestive system is upset. It is triggered by a chemical imbalance in the body which is caused by dietary changes or some lifestyle changes that prompt the body in the wrong way.

Some people experience nausea after a night out when they have hangovers the next morning which come with the strong sensation where one feels like vomiting and feels sick. Others get nausea from some prescription medicines and vitamins.

While some prescription drugs tend to leave a bad taste in the mouth which makes one nauseated, others cause acid reflux that have the same effects. Always take note of such drugs and avoid them at all costs.

Discussed below are some of the unusual causes of nausea that many people tend to overlook.

Dehydration

When you get nauseous while dehydrated, this can stop you from drinking any water or any other liquids that would help you feel better. To avoid feeling nauseous, ensure you stay hydrated all the time and drink up to one litre of water daily, which is broken into eight glasses of water in a day.

When you get feelings of nausea when dehydrated, take small sips of water until you feel your stomach is relaxed to avoid vomiting.

Over hydration

When you take too much water too fast while on a hike or while exercising, you will experience bad feelings of nausea which lead to vomiting. Drinking too much water while exercising causes an imbalance between fluids and sodium which leads to pain, inflammation and nausea.

While taking your break in the midst of working out, drink small amounts of water slowly to avoid feeling nauseous.

Taking multivitamins without eating

Taking multivitamins on an empty stomach is one of the most common causes of nausea. Supplements like copper and iron cause one to have a stomach upset while more acidic vitamins such as Vitamin C cause an increase of acid in the stomach which leads to strong feelings of nausea since there is no food to hold them down.

Caffeine withdrawal

If you are a caffeine addict and you never go a day without your daily coffee fix, you will experience a feeling of nausea and headaches when you do not give your body the caffeine it needs even for a day.

Caffeine causes an addiction to it and a sudden withdrawal causes withdrawal symptoms which are similar to the ones that have the same strength as caffeine and also cause a dependency on them.

Stress

Having high stress levels and being anxious cause very intense physical reactions in the body. When having a long, difficult day, there is a measurable rise in the heart rate, blood pressure, adrenaline and neurochemicals that tent to prepare the body for a fight or a speedy exit out of a dangerous situation.

These chemicals also speed up your metabolism which leads to one having feelings of nausea.

Acid reflux

Getting heartburn is the most common sign of an acid reflux and gastro esophageal reflux disease known as GERD. Some people experience nausea when stomach contents and acids go back into the oesophagus.

Being Anxious

When you get a panic attack your body tends to shift into a fight mode. The adrenaline is pumped into your bloodstream which prepares you for a fight or an escape at high speed.

While this is happening, functions of the body like digestion stop and this leads to accumulation of toxins in the body and the chemical signals reach your brain and ignite the feeling of nausea.
