This is of my favourite fish recipes.
The marinade is very close to chicken tikka marinade but here, we will add more lime to get rid of the sharp fish smell.
Today, we will pan sear the fish but if you wish, you can always grill it directly on a charcoal grill.
What you will need:
500g tilapia fish fillet
Juice of 2 limes
3 garlic cloves
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon curry powder
1/2 teaspoon jeera ‘cumin’ powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
Salt to taste
1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
1 tablespoon tomato paste
Oil for frying
What to do:
Squeeze some lime juice all over the fish fillets, ensuring it is well distributed.
Sprinkle some salt then, using a small grater, finely grate the garlic cloves onto the fish.
Add the tomato paste, black pepper, coriander powder, jeera, turmeric, curry powder and chili flakes.
Rub the ingredients all over the fish, turning it so that the flavours infuse well. Add a teaspoon of oil on the fish and continue to massage it gently then set aside for about 30 minutes.
In a pan over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of oil and pan sear the fish until golden brown (about 2 minutes each side).
Flip them over gently ensuring they don’t tear because fish is very soft and delicate.
Once ready, serve hot with a side of sautéed veggies or potatoes.
