Let me begin by joining millions of Kenyans in saying ‘well done’ to our Lupita Nyong’o for making Kenya proud, on the world stage of Hollywood.

No time like the present to name-drop: I knew Lupita when she was in Kenya, pleasant lass, and a really nice person.

Without farther ado, let me compare and contrast Miss Nyong’o with the so-called socialites who are always telling us that their long-term dream is to ‘make it big in Hollywood, live large.’

There are ten key differences I discerned between them and Lupita, which are miles so far apart it’s like earth and Jupiter.

First, Lupita has embraced herself as a valid and African person. For all the women out there who are putting on skin Jik, in a bid to be lighter, stop right there! Black is also beautiful, stop with skin lighteners.

Two, we have heard about socialites who brag about spending almost half a million shillings on weaves, so they look more like Caucasians or horses. Stop! God gave you a head, with your brains and your hair. Stop being an airhead, and forcing the horse hair.

Three, what is this thing that socialites have with getting ahead by getting a big behind? Stop getting behind of yourself, using botox on bottoms and other injections. If your mama didn’t give you ‘big booty,’ embrace the ‘Thin is the In Thing’ philosophy, and work that skeleton like gold.

Then there is that little thing called talent that Lupita has got that has helped her conquer the world. Taking ‘selfie’ pictures of oneself and posting them all over the social media doesn’t exactly scream ‘talent’. It just tell us you have the gift of idle time on your hands.

Hard work is another phrase that is an anathema to the so-called socialites of today. Men Only has seen the fake dream they are selling young ladies, of a life of leisure and holidays. Lupita would say there is nothing sweeter than eating the bread of your hands, no wine finer than the sweat of your brows. She would say this not because of the slave metaphors therein, but because it is true. Looking for rich men to fulfill one as a woman is demeaning.

Search for deep issues to pursue. Before slavery fame, Lupita did a documentary on albinos. Trying to muscle into ‘jigger’ territory is the story of a jiggered mind! As for sanitary pads, MS is so cliché, our socialites have bled out of ideas over there.

Be graceful of manner and eloquent of tongue. The vicious vitriol of the socialites on social media, the X-rated language by supposed ladies, just shames you, and tells us lots about your mother, and your upbringing.

Also, you saw how Lupita thanked her family for the ‘training.’ Honour thy father and thy mother is not just a commandment, it is the way to parental blessings, and a path to success.

Lupita also thanked Yale, also for the training. Education is paramount, even if your dream is to be a star of Paramount Pictures, my friend. It will open doors, how you express yourself gets you The Job. Don’t just think now that you’re through with KCSE (and it wasted you), it’s time to paaaarrrtty, gal!

Lastly, I know there are socialites out there who will say ‘but Lupita had to strip to get famous, ama?’ Look here. That scene in the movie where she is stripped, tied to a tree then whipped like a dog isn’t exactly a ‘nudie,’ okay?
