Many times, an auntie or a married friend will give you some valuable advice on wedding planning, such as the best source for exotic flowers and which vendor to pick for your wedding cake. As much as that is appreciated, brides need enough advice to know how to get through their big day without a hitch.

The wedding day, which is a nerve-wracking moment in every woman’s life, is full of excitement and jitters. To help you go through with it without losing yourself, here are a few tips worth noting.

Make sure you eat breakfast

No matter how nervous you may be, don’t allow your mind to deceive you and make you believe that you can get through the day without breakfast. Of all the days in your life, don’t skip breakfast on your wedding day. Eat something you enjoy - I mean it’s your wedding! Eat a meal packed with lots of protein because protein will take a while to break down in your body. This will give you enough energy to keep going.

Plan your time well

It is advisable not to go out on the night of your wedding, so you should spend it indoors resting and relaxing for the big day. Sleep early so as to wake up early feeling refreshed. With enough rest and time on your hands, you will not stress about running late or running out of time.

Don’t overdo the perfume

We understand that you need to smell good but please go easy on the designer perfume. Considering how strong the scent may be, it can make your spouse and your guests nauseous.

Hire a wedding planner

Wedding planners usually play a big role in helping the couple organize and put everything into place. They relieve stress for you and your partner, as well as ensure that you enjoy your day without any drama or anxiety.

Take a few selfies

This is your big day and it will only happen once in a lifetime. Ensure that you take personal pictures and make it fun even though you already have photographers on location. Before or after the reception, ensure that you take photos with high school friends, college friends, co-workers and relatives. Go all out and have props just for the fun of it.

Put your phone away

Honestly, it is your wedding! You have no business having your phone on you at all. Whatever it is, delegate it with your maid of honour, close cousin or friend. Let them handle any communication coming through your phone. Your focus should be on your partner.

Carry flats for the reception

Most brides usually wear high heels on their big day but be sure to carry a pair of flats, especially if there’s too much dancing and walking around. Also, being in heels the entire time may result in swollen feet that may lead to discomfort and pain. It is your big day and you need to enjoy it. If that means kicking your heels off, do so.

Have a moment with your parents

It’s usually a norm that brides dance with their fathers during the reception, but that does not mean you cannot make room for your mother. Spend time with both of them, keeping in mind that you’ve officially left the nest.

Make sure you dance

During your big day, you need to get let go and just have fun. Ensure that you dance your heart out even if you don’t know how to dance. You can make a list of some of the songs you love for the DJ to play. Should you feel concerned about your two left feet, consider dance classes weeks or days before your wedding day.

Give a thank you speech

The day cannot come to an end without both of you appreciating all those who made it possible. Make sure you thank your parents, guests who came from far and within as well as your friends for making it a success. You don’t have to make a long speech, just make it short and straight to the point.
