"Madam I have a disturbing question. Is there such a thing as the G-Spot?" that was the salvo my innocent niece fired during her bridal shower where I was one of the speakers.

The question elicited laughter from the 15 women present – bridesmaids and some of the bride's friends.

It was asked so naively, with that childlike innocence and it gave away the fact that my 25-year-old niece was still a virgin.

But even beyond that, the question was so 'mind-blowing' all the ladies in the room sat upright; there was no doubt they were all hungry and thirsty for this tantalising piece of information.

Maybe if they told us where this elusive thing is, our sex lives would be on point.

"Ya that's a hot one madam, tell it like it is. Even us elders can do with that piece of advice," the bridesmaid prodded as the other women cheered her on.

The inquiry was so forthright and deep, it caught the erstwhile liberal sexologist who was moderating the session, off guard.

"Wow wow wow...bride-to-be, that's a hot one. And where do we start from?" the sexologist posed.

Is there such a place? And can it be located? Or is it just a mythical thing? Indeed, the struggle to find the elusive spot has been around for years.

Numerous researches have been conducted to shed light on this spot, sex therapists have offered varied views and women have continued to grope in the dark, while searching for this Promised Land.

At some point the verdict for women was "accept and move on. There's no such thing, it's all in your heads."

But a recent research from the Alvarado Hospital in San Diego in the US stated that the G-Spot exists. For the sake of Tasha and Troy reading this someday, I will not delve deeper (no pun intended) into that topic.

Now, from the bridal shower, other than the G-Spot, another thing that stood out for me was how thrilling these sessions have become.

During my days, bridal showers were boring lecture sessions. Some elderly aunt would go on and on about how to be a submissive and loyal wife.

They were so routine and colourless, by the time they were done, you were left wondering whether you were going to be a wife or housegirl.

The talks were centred on how to please the man, and you were left you wondering whether you were shortchanging yourself by entering into a union.

That was then. Now things are explosive.

At my niece's bridal shower, the girls tackled the so-called foreign or taboo topics in black and white, and no subject was embarrassing.

From the use of sex toys to spruce up your marriage to tips and tricks on sex styles, I left there with enough bedroom lessons that can last a lifetime.

The highlight of the night was a wild party where the girls let down their hair. How times have changed!
