Our men are players: Two 'wags' confess

The lifespan of a local football star does not go beyond a decade of active pitch football. In fact, several Kenyan footballers often fade away the moment they clock 30.

Aware of the fact that they have no much time, the young men tend to exhaust every little time they get in different adventures.

Remember the story of two Kenyan stars caught pants down at a hotel in Uganda during the 2012 CECAFA Challenge? Well, that was just but a tip of the iceberg.

Sneaking girlfriends

Investigations by The Nairobian reveal that local boys in the Kenyan Premier League clubs sneak their girlfriends into hotels almost every weekend.

This would not be news in a league where players are not paid much, with a number of clubs caught in financial crisis. Ability to book hotels full board, exclusively for clubs would present a puzzle to clubs already struggling with players’ salaries.

Several WAGS interviewed by The Nairobian confessed to have had an affair or two with their football boyfriends, both married and engaged.

“I had known him for just a month, during which we have romped together almost every weekend. Last month when his team came to town, he told me the name of the hotel, and I got a room just in time before their arrival. As such, we get to have a good time without raising eyebrows. I know he is married, but look here, this is just fun,” a footballer’s ‘clande’ confessed.

Cynthia (not her real name) disclosed shocking tales of top footballers and their rollercoaster ways of living, stating that a number of those she has been in contact with ‘just can’t zip up’.

“I have since learnt that dating a footballer is one of the toughest things one would want to do in life. It almost becomes like a job. Most of the time he is broke, and you always have to bail him out here and there. But then even after doing to him what his wife cannot do, the stupid bugger will still play you,” she said.

Caught cheating

Insincerity and constant lies by the man in the relationship has seen one of the renown wags throw in the towel.

‘Manchester’ Jaddah, a girlfriend of Gor Mahia’s attacking midfielder Innocent Mutiso claims she has been ‘through hell’ at the hands of the soft spoken K’Ogalo sensation.

“I have caught Mutiso cheating on me many times, but even after confessing and promising never to hurt me, he still cheats. Ladies call me to tell me how they had a good time with him in Nakuru, and other towns where Gor visits. What am I supposed to do?” posed Jaddah.

But Jaddah says she is done fighting with other girls over the love of her life since ‘the stories of unfaithfulness won’t just end any time soon. Footballers travel a lot for match encounters outside town during which they sleep in hotels.”

She claims she has been told Mutiso makes early arrangements to ensure he meets with girlfriends in his hotel.

“When I confronted him with the accusations, he confessed to sleeping around with the women,” she told The Nairobian.

Mutiso has not seen much action on the pitch after picking an injury while playing against Thika. Gor Mahia Team manager Frank Ouna has denied it has anything to do with his form.

The twist brought by foreigners plying their trade in Kenya sums it all.

Angela Makokha, popularly known as Angie, has dated two different non-Kenyan football players plying their trade in the local league.

Angie said her first affair was with a Congolese footballer who played for Sofapaka at the time.

Bed hopping

The two met at a popular joint in town known for playing Rhumba, and within two hours of their encounter, the striker was willing to take her to bed.

“I found that a bit awful, so I declined. However, the pressure was too much, and two days later, he was at my place. I didn’t want to lose him. You know he is handsome and any woman would give anything to have him,” Angie said.

However, what Angie thought was bliss, turned out to be hell on Earth.

“I was always at war with many other girls who could call me at the wee hours just to quarrel. Well, he was good in bed,” she said.

After her ordeal at the hands of the Lingala boy, Angie ditched him and now dates another striker, a Nigerian.

“I think I was born for football, I just can’t help it. I may not be a football adherent but the boys love me. I don’t even frequent the stadiums unless he is sure of a place in the starting lineup,” she said.

When contacted, club officials denied claims that players have sex while on trips or in home camps.

Speaking to The Nairobian, Muhoroni Youth Club chairperson Moses Adagala said players are usually secluded in a camp, and are taken to a guesthouse where nobody else is allowed.

“We have a contract with a guesthouse where our players stay, and we make it very private,” said Adagala.

He added that WAGS are not allowed anywhere near the guesthouses or camps, “and that it is just a club policy.”

“Our structure does not allow that. We take camps seriously, and when we travel, we go as a team. Nobody leaves, nobody joins,” he said.

Gor Mahia manager Ouna said players are secluded before a match and outsiders are not allowed into their hotel room.
