Chilli charged Kuku Mwitu rapper Kyki unleashed

Pulse: Where did you come from with this charged diss track Kuku Mwitu since no one knew you before this Kenyan female rappers beef started?

Kyki: I am from the underrated underground. That is where I am coming from...

Pulse: What does that mean...? You come from the dark world or something?

Kyki: I have been a very underrated industry since I did my first track in 2014. The thing about the Kenyan music industry is that no one cares if you are not known.

They keep on talking about same old rugged faces who are not even doing anything to help this industry get to the next level.

So I figured out that the best way to pop out was to join the ongoing bile that was Femi One’s female diss.

Pulse: Before we get to this Kuku Mwitu talk, you said you had recorded other jams before. Are you that girl in Sisi Ndio Hao....?

Kyli: Now you see! Together with Nasha, Tiziana, Renee, Noti Flow and Baby T, we released Sisi Ndio Hao in November 2015, a track that was recorded by Richie-G of ATL Entertainment but no one gave a f*** about it.

You know, unless you go viral, no one talks about it...

Pulse: Feel you...

Kyli: After this, I released Haki with my girl Tiziana and again, no one noticed.

Here, no one feels good vibe songs. As much as I had done other songs before then, I had not done videos as I didn’t have any cash to do any more music since no one was ready to help me.

I have been funding my music projects.

Pulse: Your family did not want to help your music career grow?

Kyki: Some of us haven’t grown (up) like that... Grown in like real families like others and so that may not apply. Some of us just hustle till you get there.

That is where I am coming from. However, don’t let me go down that lane.

Pulse: You mean family...parents...guardians...siblings...don’t help or support you?

Kyki: I already told you that I didn’t grow up like that. Like having a real family... Some people come from broken families and so no one else gets involved with stuff and the only way you can get revenge is through success.

Pulse: That sounds like a whole other story. Are you bitter, and is that why you are in hip-hop?

Kyki: I am not bitter. At 24, I know better. I am a grown up and I can find my way to success.

By my next birthday, I should be on my way to fame.

Pulse: OK! The diss track was your breakthrough plan, right?

Kyki: It was and it seems to have worked if the kind of media reviews are anything to go with it. When I heard the Pilau Njeri diss, I knew I would jump right in and do the spoils.

Clearly, my diss was the end of that series.

Pulse: What do you mean end and we heard Njeri releasing her steam with Femi Plan... Isn’t hers the last nail on the coffin?

Kyki: Who can listen to that! That is a song for people who come from Ndumberi... She gets that local... What I am doing is a plan towards the BETs.

That is where the Kenyan industry should be focusing towards now.

Pulse: Forget all the beef that comes out in Kuku Mwitu, you have just released another song Avocado... Kyki: I knew you would bring that up.

Let me make it simple. With all due respect, I see every other rapper as an avocado, I mean something that can be used for anything. In the song I warn that I am the apple.

I am the principle here and the game is over. This is Nairobary!

Pulse: Enough said! Is music all you want to do or you are pursuing another career?

Kyki: I was in campus, Kenyatta University pursing Hospitality Management but I had to drop out because of wallet issues so let’s say music is it, for now.
