Men wearing wigs

The nicely done hair cut with curly strands might just be a wig. Next time, look closer and ask questions because men are wearing weaves now. Nairobi men have always been heard throwing shade at girls for wearing fake hair.

Legendary musician Hugh Masekela has made very clear that he cannot even stand close to a woman wearing a weave. He only interacts with women wearing their natural hair. I suppose all that is about to change as now men are queuing to get their weave on. It is all about being cool on these streets and no man wants to be seen balding at 21 years of age.

Atlanta based designer Reco Chapple saw an opportunity here and created the man weave. Not to be confused with the Donald Trump toupee, this weaves are made to fit and blend in with your natural hair that grows on the sides of your head just like weaves for the women.

The price ranges of between Sh7,500 and Sh12,500 and this weave is only made for the top part of your head. This is just for the weave so remember to include the barber’s service charge in your budget. A man can be sitting with a weave in front of you and you can barely notice. Hairdressers who handle such clients are sworn to secrecy.

Make-up man

Men never do not wear make-up; for many it is just a no-no. But now if their girlfriends can stand it, the man will powder his face too. Newscasters used to allow a little powder before they go on screen but now they go the whole nine yards.

Foundation lines are seen giving evidence at the roots of the hair and the concealer hiding the break outs during a night out. Men have become bold enough to take it out to the streets right after tweezing their eye brows. It is cool for guys to go for manicure and pedicure but if you have stronger feminine characters, then you go the whole hog with coloured nail polish.

Masculine watches on girls

Some girls never understand why one should wear those small watches. They look more of bracelets instead of watches. I suppose the appeal was to attract feminine-looking jewellery but that has since been given the boot. Girls want to wear the big masculine watches just like the men.

It is no longer about telling time or having a bracelet but ‘wearing’ a statement. The watch you wear says everything about you. Our markets are flooded with the fake brands but that does not stop the Pulsers from rocking them and owning these stuff like they are the real deal.

Man in woman’s clothing

Jaden Smith, Will Smith’s son, got jaws dropping after he was spotted wearing feminine clothes straight from the runway. It is one thing to borrow from the ladies closet but it is another to simply wear the whole do.

Jaden Smith, however denying his sexuality, he has boldly worn women’s clothing to not only the red carpet but even the streets. In Atlanta, however, men with stronger female inclination are seen rocking 6-inch heels and pleather tights and dangling a handbag on the arm.
