Paris Hilton is one of the top five earning DJs in the world because she's, er, Paris Hilton, apparently.

The former reality star and hotel heiress made the outlandish claims when chatting to a paparazzi about her latest venture.

When asked how lucrative her new career choice was, the socialite replied: "I love it. I'm one of the top five in the world so..."

There's no doubt that the woman who once told a crowd in Austria that the reason she loved Austria is because they paid her $1 million to be there is well paid for her time, but TMZ reports the figure to be more around $350,000 an appearance, rather than the millions she would require to break into the top five.

Financial magazine Forbes have compiled the ACTUAL top five highest paid DJs, which are as follows.

Scottish hitmaker Calvin Harris takes the top spot with a $46 million income for 2013, which means he earned more than Jay Z and Katy Perry this year.

Tiësto with $32 million the Dutch super DJ can only manage second place this year but with that amount we don't think he'll be worrying about his gas or clog bill anytime soon.

David Guetta takes third place with $30 million after his smash hit collaborations with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Usher and Sia saw him sail to the top of the charts.

The recently disbanded Swedish House Mafia still managed to pull in $25 million in 2013 despite officially splitting up.

Deadmau5 rounds out the top five with earnings of $21 million this year. The mouse-headed DJ brings in slightly less money while playing far few shows than the rest of the top five.

So the Hilton heiress has quite some way to go before she actually cracks the top five, though either way, she's still filthy rich. And she will always have her singing career.
