She is one of Kenya's most celebrated female DJs but she does not bow to societal pressure. At 42, Pierra Makena is unmarried, out of choice.
In a recent interview with Oga Obinna, Makena, opened up about her views on love, marriage, and what she looks for in a partner.
The entertainer said she would love a self-driven man who is God-fearing, adding that he does not necessarily have to be rich.
"A God-fearing, hard-working man who doesn't necessarily need to be rich but should be self-driven," she said.
Makena said she also values personal hygiene and a good sense of romance, stating her preference for a man "who is clean, smells good, and is a good kisser."
Addressing the topic of marriage and being unmarried at 42, Makena challenged societal expectations, questioning the pressure to marry by a certain age.
"Who says there is an age one should be married?" she questioned. "I do not want to get married to the wrong person just to please society," she said.
The DJ said she is yet to meet 'the one' but she is not in a rush.
On expanding her family, Makena expressed her desire for more children, highlighting her role as a mother as one of her life's joys.
When asked if she would ever take the initiative in a romantic pursuit, Makena shared her traditional stance on the matter, "I would never hit on a man, what if he says no?"
Baby Daddy
In a separate interview late last year, Makena highlighted her differences with her baby daddy and what made them part ways.
She added that their relationship was alright until she got pregnant, saying the man got married to another woman when she was five months pregnant.
"When I got pregnant he did not want anything to do with us. He was very polite about it. He didn't demean me but five months later he got married to someone else. That hurt me.
"I didn't know how I would move on from it but I did. I was happy for him because he got his happiness. I didn't follow up on his life," she said.
Makena also quashed rumours that the man was married, clarifying that this happened after their relationship had ended.
"No, he was never married. We had dated for a while. Then we broke up, and two weeks later is when I found out I was pregnant. After five months he found a girl he connected with and they got married. So as much as I got hurt by the fact he was getting married while I was carrying his child, I just had to live with it because that's just life. It's a rollercoaster," she said.
