Gachagua: I regret having only two children, I was misled

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed regret over having only two children and has conveyed a desire to change this if he could.

The DP made these remarks during a vernacular interview with Inooro TV, where he encouraged people from the Mt. Kenya region to have more children, citing his own past decisions as influenced by external factors.

"I regret having only two children. I made an unwise decision and was misguided by the Western Culture, which led me to limit the size of my family," he said.

He further advised that, when planning their families, individuals should not be overly concerned about the high cost of living, emphasizing that God always provides for his people.

Gachagua advocated for a lack of restrictions on the number of children a couple should have, suggesting that those from the region consider having at least seven children, highlighting the historical promotion of birth limitation by the colonisers.

The Deputy President also addressed various other issues, including the cabinet reshuffle, saying it was necessary for effective delivery of services.

"President @WilliamsRuto just reorganised his team for effective delivery of the services. There is no one who was removed from office. There is no need to read too much into the President's reshuffle.

"I kindly ask those who were given new mandates to work with diligence and commitment and ensure that their work is visible to the public," he wrote.

Gachagua also assured the nation that his relationship with President William Ruto is healthy and that they are in constant communication on how best to steer the country forward.

Through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Gachagua said the Head of State understands what he is capable of and that is why he entrusted him with that role.

"President @WilliamsRuto and I are joined at the hip. We talk on a daily basis. My relationship with the President is top-notch.

"He has mandated me with a great responsibility because he understands my output. We shall continue working for Kenyans until the end of our term," he wrote.
