Orchestra Super Limpopo is still putting together music and performances years after the death of their band leader, Musa Juma. Juma, who founded the group died on March 11, 2011, leaving shoes too big to fit.

Although the band has suffered huge setbacks after losing its top artistes, who worked with its founding leader Juma coupled with stiff economic challenges, it has survived the test of time. On Fridays, the band performs at Melleden Club in Upper Hill, Nairobi, while on Saturdays, they get down at Club Paradiso, along Jogoo Road.

After she took over the band leadership, Fedha changed the name from Orchestra Limpopo International to Orchestra Super Limpopo. Her success has seen her produce four new albums: Baba Natasha, Siaya County, Jaherana (My Lover) and Hera Neko (Mad Love), all sung in Luo.

Still, Fedha says she cannot fit into Juma's shoes because he was unmatchable.

"Musa was a talented singer, an avid guitarist and a smart composer whose managerial skills were top. Our joy is that he taught us the trade, and I am happy we learnt from him. It is not easy to run a band in a male-dominated field, but we are steadily following the footsteps of my brother," she said.

Just like Orchestra TP OK Jazz Band, which survived the test of times decades after the death of its founding leader the late Franco Luambo Luanzo Makiadi on October 8, 1989, Orchestra Super Limpopo has steadily held strong.

After the death of Makaidi, TP OK Jazz Orchestra was led by experienced poet Lutumba Simarro Massiya who died on March 30, 2019, and led a host of experienced musicians like Josky Kiambukuta, Ntesa Dalienst and Madilu System.

Orchestra Super Limpopo's live performances have made a difference in the Rhumba and Benga scene locally after the death of experienced musicians like DO Misiani, Collela Mazee, Odongo Agwata and Ouma Jerry.
