Authorities in Parklands on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, apprehended four individuals suspected of trafficking marijuana as part of a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

The operation took place in Kariowa slums, Ngara, and was spearheaded by various anti-crime units, including the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Trans National Organised Crime Unit, in conjunction with the Parklands Anti-Terror Police Unit.

During the raid, law enforcement officials managed to seize over Sh.12 million in cash and confiscated 26 bags of cannabis, 4 cartons of rolling materials, 173 packaged sweets, and a carton containing suspected cannabis-infused cookies.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) shared information about the arrest on the X app, stating that a thorough search had led to the discovery of two gunny bags where a substantial amount of money had been concealed.

The detained suspects were identified as Teresa Wanjiru, Eugene Jumba, Hillary Jumbo, and Sheila Withers and are scheduled to appear in court today.

Teresa Wanjiru is 54 years old, while her accomplices are juveniles aged between 16 and 17 years old.

On the X app, users, particularly Kenyans on Twitter, engaged in discussions about whether Wanjiru could be the infamous 'Mathe wa Ngara' who is known for selling 'weed' around Ngara.

So popular was the news of her supposed arrest that some even called for her immediate release under the hashtag 'Free Mathee'.

Some went as far as comparing her to the main protagonist in Queen of the South, an American crime drama TV series.

"Untouchable "Mathe Wa Ngara" finally got nabbed by DCI with Ksh. 12M cash and consignment of drugs," Dan Chepta posted on X.

"Someone has told me this is not Mathe wa Ngara alias Queen of the South. I'm told the real one is still in Ngara," read part of Pauline Njoroge's post on x.

"You can arrest Mathe but you cannot arrest Kwa Mathe," wrote another netizen and the DCI swiftly responded, "Sawa tupatane kwa Mathe mapema."

Intelligence reports, however, indicate the 'real mathee' is currently on the run. She is well-connected and was recently arrested but was released after a pre-bargain.
