Husband attacks neighbour for giving his wife a lift

NEWS

A man was charged in a Makadara court with assaulting another man over suspicion that he was 'eyeing' his wife. Elly Odhiambo, according to court papers, attacked Kenneth Wainaina using a metal bar within the Nyayo estate in Nairobi on February 16.

Odhiambo was also accused of maliciously damaging the windscreen and passenger windows of a car belonging to the complainant. It is alleged that Wainana dropped Odhiambo's wife at their home in the estate at around 1 am. Reportedly, it was then that Odhiambo who had been looking for his wife charged at the vehicle forcing Wainaina to speed off with the woman still inside the car.

Unfortunately, Odhiambo got into his car and pursued them to the gate where he caught up and allegedly attacked Wainaina with a metal bar. At the same time, it is stated that Odhiambo shattered the car's windows and windscreen.

In the process, it said that the complainant suffered finger and knee injuries which prompted him to report the case to the police and record a statement. Police officers later visited the scene and arrested Odhiambo who denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi and pleaded for lenient bail and bond terms.

The accused added that he cannot run away since he lives in Nairobi and that he has been cooperative during investigations. The accused was released on a bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of a similar amount and an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000. The hearing of this case starts on September 19.
