Fugitive cop Caroline Kangogo was found dead at her parents’ home in Anin, Elgeyo Marakwet on Friday morning.

According to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya, Kangogo might have shot herself in the head.

Natembeya further stated that Kangogo arrived at her parents’ home at around 5am and did not talk to anyone.

“According to our officers, Kangogo got to her parents' home at around 5am but she did not go inside the house…her parents saw her.

“At around 7.30am she went to one of the bathrooms located outside the house and shot herself dead,” said Natembeya.

Asked why Kangogo managed to evade police for weeks, Natembeya said she was a trained officer and was familiar with the tactics used by detectives to hunt down criminals.

“She was one of us and knows the tactics we use to nab people on the run but the fact that she committed suicide means she knew she could no longer hide.

“There was no way she would be on the run forever,” he said.

Suicide note

According to Natembeya, no suicide note has been recovered from the scene of crime yet but investigations are underway.

“Our officers have secured the scene and we shall look for anything she might have left behind…we will also check the pockets of her pants.

“Soon we shall get to the bottom of this and we will give a comprehensive update once investigations are complete,” said Natembeya.

Kangogo has been on the run for close to two weeks and was wanted for the killings of constable John Ogweno and businessman Peter Ndwiga, 32.

The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti had cautioned members of the public that the cop was armed and dangerous.

There were reports that she was moving around in a buibui but when police found her body, the deceased was in a yellow jumper, similar to the one that was captured by CCTV cameras at a joint along Thika road where she was last seen.
