When the who’s who in Kenya plan to tie the knot, it is typically a pompous event catered by the best organisers. Such engagement parties, traditional nuptials and walks down the aisle are attended by sprinkles of familiar faces, many of whom make decisions on the country’s economic future in those informal set-ups.
This weekend, Deputy President William Ruto’s daughter introduced her fiancé, a Nigerian doctor to the world with photos released on her mother’s social media handles.
June Ruto, the child of the prominent politician officially introduced Doctor Alexander Ezenagu to her family in an intimate event attended by both the Ruto family and that of her future groom. The event also reportedly included dowry negotiation.
The engagement party was held at Ruto’s Karen home on Saturday, with the Kalenjin traditions and Igbo ones visibly upheld in the dress code- which was all African.
“Every mother’s joy is to share life’s family values, lessons and milestones with her daughter. My heartfelt congratulations, love and prayers to my daughter June on her new chapter,” wrote Rachel Ruto.
The Deputy President’s daughter has a high profile job as Charge d’Affaires in Poland, where she represents the ambassador in her absence.
Doctor Ezenagu is an Assistant Professor in the college of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Qatar. Additionally, he is a tax law expert who holds a PhD in international tax law from McGill University, Canada.
The road to the pair’s nuptials was not only glamorous, but a happy event filled with smiling faces. The bride to be, June, glowed in at least three different outfits, a big diamond ring on that finger telling of the wedding to come.
