Matata, a crew based in Oslo, Norway, have had a successful run since they hit the airwaves. The 5-man band comprised of Freddy Milanya, Festus Mwenda, Richard Mathu, Marcus Ojiambo and Ken Kimathi made history last month when they won their first PMVA award, two for that matter.

In the 2020 PMVA list, Matata led the pack with four nods as they were nominated in Best Breakthrough Video with Mare Mare, Best Group with Gengetone Love and Best Choreography with Kata and Ruracio in the same category. They went ahead and clinched Best Choreography with Kata and Best Group of the Year with Gengetone Love.

The group has penned a message to their mothers celebrating them and dedicating the awards to them.

“The beautiful women in these pictures are not only women but Angels of life. They are the women who gave birth to yours truly, Matata. These women have played and are still playing very important roles in our lives. We wouldn’t be the men we are today were it not for their sacrifice, wisdom, guidance and above all love. So when we won our first ever music award at the PMVA, we dedicated the awards to these beautiful women who we are honoured to call our mothers. All mothers are angels of love, life is possible only because of them,” read the post in part.

The group is notoriously known for their prowess at making hard-hitting club bangers and getting everybody on the dancefloor at the slightest provocation. They have had a hugely successful musical career with back-to-back smash hits like Ruracio, Kata and Gengetone Love, backed by state-of-the-art videos to boot.

They are currently riding high with their latest project,  Achuu, a collaboration with musical powerhouse STL. A song that they clarified that they had wanted to work with Khaligraph jones at first, but he turned down the offer. ?
