Last week, the pint-sized 58-year-old actor divided opinions when he flew into a volcanic rage after spotting two crew members on the set of Mission Impossible 7 standing closer than two meters apart.

Exploding with anger, the miniature actor threatened to fire anyone he saw breaking Covid health and safety rules and claimed the entire Hollywood industry was watching how his new movie is being made in order to replicate Covid rules of their own.

A source told US Weekly: “They believe it had a lot to do with his ego. Good intentions aside, he didn’t need to rant and rave the way he did.

They went on to say that the crew has been “walking on eggshells” since Tom’s meltdown.

The source adds: “According to him, there’s no margin for error, especially when so many other productions have been shut down.”

While Mission Impossible has been filming in the UK and Europe throughout the pandemic, many other productions have successfully completed work despite the added challenges presented by the ongoing health crisis.

Tom’s furious rant sparked a backlash with some fans comparing his “toxic” outburst to the reported behaviour of Ellen DeGeneres.

While actress and Scientology survivor Leah Remini accused the A Lit actor of being “abusive”.

Calling out his outburst as nothing more than a stunt – and using her insider knowledge to explain that Scientologists inherently don’t believe in pandemics – she said: This behavior is not normal or appropriate. No one can respond to his outburst without being fired. And again, this is not a pandemic that Tom and Scientology believe in."

She continued:” Tom’s reaction that was released yesterday shows his true personality. He is an abusive person.

"I witnessed it, I've been a recipient of it on a small level, and I've been told of similar abuse by his former girlfriend, his employees, and his friends. This is the real Tom."
