Socialite Bridget Achieng has criticized Kenyans in the showbiz industry for not being supportive of each other. Achieng, who gained fame after featuring in reality TV show Nairobi Diaries shared her rant via Instagram.
“I am a living witness, Kenya is f***** up. No one wants to see you win. I pray for a better Kenya, a better country where we love and support each other while nurturing each other. Our industry is f***** up, the hate is real the love is fake. They support you when they see you, and when you turn your back, they hate. I pray for a better Kenya.”
The mother of one applauded Nigerians saying they genuinely support each other.

“I love how Nigerians support each other, even with Omah Lay and Tems saga in Uganda they were very supportive. I pray for my Kenyan people, very wicked.”
She was referring to the recent drama in Uganda where Nigerian musicians Omah Lay and Tems were arrested and charged for allegedly violating COVID-19 regulations. Following the arrests, Nigerian artists including Burna Boy, Laycon, Rema, Teni and Fireboy DML called for the release of both musicians. Their pressure coupled with pressure from Nigerians paid off as the two had their charges dropped and were released.

Unsupportive Kenyans
Achieng’s rant is not the first time Kenyans in the showbiz industry has been accused of being unsupportive of each other. The first time an effort to have Kenyans support each other went viral was with the #PlayKenya movement when musicians called out radio stations and deejays for majorly playing foreign music. Kenyan promoters have been accused of not prioritizing local artists by giving international artists many privileges and failing to pay Kenyan artists. The recent rise of socialite Shakilla can be cited as a case of no-support in the industry.
