Businesswoman Joyce Akinyi has defended her multi-million assets, saying she acquired it through hard work and clean business deals. According to Akinyi, she was already a millionaire in 2015 and the claims by the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA) that she acquired her wealth from 2017 by selling illegal narcotic drugs are false.

“As at 2015, one of my accounts had more than Sh37 million,” said Akinyi.

Akinyi filed the affidavit in response to an application by ARA to have her assets and Sh34 million in her bank accounts forfeited to the State. She avers that in 2015, she had sold a house at Sh43 million, which was supplemented by money she makes from her Deep West Resort in Nairobi West. ARA in September obtained an order stopping Akinyi from disposing of two cars said to be proceeds of drugs.
