Ken Spears has died at the age of 82. The Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! cartoons co-creator died on Friday from complications related to Lewy body dementia, his son Kevin Spears has told.
"Ken will forever be remembered for his wit, his story-telling, his loyalty to family, and his strong work ethic," the writer's son told Variety in a statement.

"Ken has not only made a lasting impression on his family, but he has touched the lives of many as co-creator of 'Scooby-Doo.' Ken has been a role model for us throughout his life and he will continue to live on in our hearts."
Speaking about how he did not expect Scooby Doo to be such a hit, Ken previously told ScoobyAddicts.com that was "worried it wouldn't last but one season, much less 38 years."
Ken's sad death comes just three months after his Scooby-Doo colleague Joe Ruby passed away. At the end of August Joe died of natural causes in Westlake Village, California, according to Deadline.

The cartoon series that catapulted the talented men to fame premiered in 1969 and it followed Great Dane Scooby-Doo in helping to solve mysteries alongside Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred. The cartoon aired on CBS until 1976 and has been the subject of several reboots since, as well as film adaptations and spinoffs. Ken and Ruby started Ruby-Spears Productions which created Alvin and the Chipmunks, Mister T, Superman and Thundarr the Barbarian.
