Prison Break star Dominic Purcell has confirmed that season 6 of the hit series is in the works. The actor - who plays Lincoln Burrows in the hit series - took to Instagram to put the rumours to rest as he made the exciting announcement.

Sharing a selfie with his 1.9million followers, the actor wrote: "Rumor number 1. I'm old. Yes. I'm 50.....Rumour number 2. I'm bald. No, I have a full head of hair; the people demand I shave it. "Rumor number 3, Will Season PB 6 happen. Yes.....Rumour number 4. Do I like humans? No. Not on mass. Definitely not."

Naturally, Prison Break fans went wild following the announcement, as they rushed to the comments section to express their excitement.

Confused at how casual the announcement was, one fan penned: "This dude just casually said prison break is happening." Another wrote: "Did u just say yes to Prison Break 6??????" A third added: "Season 6 Prison Break??? Aaaa," alongside a row of heart emojis. While a fourth fan wrote: "Season 6? Reallyyyy o my God." Another excited fan penned: "Omg omg omg omg!"

The hit show - which follows an engineer who installs himself in a prison he helped design, in order to save his falsely accused brother from a death sentence - first hit our screens in 2005. Season 5 was released in 2017, meaning if Season 6 does happen, it will go at odds with what we've heard in the past from the network that makes the programme. Back in 2019, Fox Entertainment's CEO Charlie Collier said that the network didn't plan to bring the show back.

He said: "There's no plan right now to revive Prison Break or any of the other franchises, but when the creators come with a story that they think is the right time to tell, we are so ready to listen because those are some franchises of which I'm so proud and feel so fortunate that they're in our stable." The hit series also stars Wentworth Miller, Sarah Wayne Callies, Robert Knepper and Transformers star Amaury Nolasco.
