The MTV Video Music Awards has defied the coronavirus pandemic to become the first ceremony since the pandemic started but it was not like most other awards. While it was no surprise that Lady Gaga and K-pop superstars BTS were among the big winners, the 'virtual' awards saw only a small amount of audience members, a socially-distanced red carpet and performance and acceptances from artists at different venues across New York.
The VMAs were hosted by Keke Palmer from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and there were performances from Lady Gaga with Ariana Grande and The Weeknd.
Reacting to winning the song of the year, Ariana said on Twitter : "crying @ladygaga again u are the most gracious and stunning I’m so grateful to be a part of this thank you @MTV @vmas & my babes again !! love u so much."
A Moon Person was up for grabs for the winners and here is who bagged the scocoveted prize at this year's virtual ceremony.
