On Saturday, thousands of Tanzanians gathered at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam to witness as the Mainland Tanzania Premier League champs, Simba Sports Club ushered in their 2020-2021 squad. Numerous celebrities were in attendance including the Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) boss Diamond Platnumz and other notable musicians who moved the massive crowd with their breathtaking performances.
However, what seems to have started out as an amazing concert almost turned tragic after Diamond was attacked by a fan while on stage. In the clip doing rounds on social media, Diamond is seen busy entertaining the big crowd before a fan jumps on him from the back and tackles him to the ground so hard it was feared he might have hurt himself.
The audience watched in disbelief as the security team tried to free the singer from the fan’s grasp. The Baba Lao crooner seems to have escaped unhurt as he continued to hype the crowd after the melee. Despite the altercation, Diamond delivered a performance that many will live to remember. He later took to social media to appreciate his fans for their undying support and love.

“It was such a great honor performing at SIMBA DAY Mkapa Stadium yesterday.....Thanks to the fans for the Mad Love…My appreciation goes out to @simbasctanzania for inviting me to the event. For my diehard fans, I love you all so much. Don’t go on hurting yourselves I’m still yours and my duty is to entertain you all,” he wrote.
The Tanzanian superstar has made it clear how much he loves his fans and it is evident in how he pours out his heart when it comes to performing for them and entertaining them. In spite of being honored to grace the annual event, Diamond believes that the day would not have turned out as successful as it did without his fans’ presence and support.
“Thank you so Much My brother @moodewji na Mashabiki kwa Upendo wenu Mkubwa... Hakika ilikuwa ni siku ya Faraja...Words can't express how grateful I am, for the love you show me my Beautiful people.....,” he added.
Rowdy fans
It is a risky affair for artists at large who have had to deal with fans making their way past security and getting to them, either while they are performing on stage or out and about, just to show them love or intentionally harm them.
