Ugandan top promoter cum President Yoweri Museveni’s music manager Balaam Barugahara has patted Kyadondo East MP Bobi Wine on the back for releasing a song on Covid-19 in a bid to raise awareness of the disease ravaging the planet.

In a twist, however, the multi-millionaire promoter behind a mega-agency with roots in Uganda and South Sudan tipped Bobi Wine’s arch-rival in the race for Uganda’s top seat come 2021 -President Museveni, to have the last word.

“I hope the president will also hit the studio and produce a stronger one,” Baugahara told Sqoop as he expressed confidence that President Museveni will hit the studio and belt out an even bigger banger on Covid-19.

According to Barugahara, other top Ugandan acts who support the president i.e Bebe Cool, Catherine Kusasira and Big Eye need to prop up the head of state with a bigger tune.

He pointed out that though Bobi Wine’s Corona Virus Alert song that featured fellow musician Nubian Li was a hit, the singer turned politician 'borrowed heavily' from slogans popularized by Museveni.

“I have listened to Hon Bobi Wine Ft Nubian Covid-19 song. It’s nice. I’m glad he included H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s commonly used ‘Okwetsyaamura’ word and many others. That shows he’s a good Student/Muzukulu. Thank You for the song… Hopefully, my Artist Sevo or his backers namely Bebe, Kusasira, Big Eye, Apas and many at large come up with a greater one in the next few days,” he added.

Barugahara’s naming of the three to gear up for a collabo against Bobi Wine is no fluke. He four months ago, alongside Bebe Cool and Kusasira - a senior presidential advisor on Kampala affairs -besieged the 75-year-old leader to reward ‘loyal National Resistance Movement (NRM) musicians.

Big Eye and King Michael were consequently gifted 30 cows each and Sh274,900 in cash. Kusasira and Bebe Cool - on their part- received 50 cows and Sh824,700 each.

Museveni’s music

In 2010, Museveni endeared to the youth after releasing a sensation rap song Yes Ssebo as he campaigned for re-lection, an anthem that solidified his march to the presidency, propelled by a youthful wave, after a gruelling campaign.

He would later follow it up with Mpa enkoni, Yengoma Tukarugahare (We came from far) and Another Rap. The latter of which saw him get dragged to the commercial court by singer Richard Kaweesa for copyright infringement.

Speaking at the time, Barugahara claimed that Yengoma sold over 1 million copies and outclassed Bobi Wine’s hit at the time, Kasukali.

“Our song is taking the country by storm. We have sold one million copies so far with two million views. This is the first song to sell one million copies in only two days and it is by the president of Uganda,” he NBS’ Uncut
