Jamie’s marriage falls apart when she finds out her husband has been cheating on her. She heads home to her family with her young son in order to figure out what to do next. She then meets Whit, a man of charm and connections who becomes overly protective of her. Whit convinces Jamie that her ex-husband has plans to kidnap their son. As soon as Jamie starts to fall for Whit, she learns the horrible truth that Whit is her cousin and a paranoid schizophrenic who has been in and out of mental institutions for most of his adult life.

THUMBS UP:

For a B movie, it’s entertaining enough. The heroine is incredibly naïve but her frustration at being “gaslighted” is well-done. This movie is not terrible. It lacks the budget and gloss of an A-list film but for the most part you could see a young Julia Roberts playing the role as well - just with more shimmer and more sets.

THUMBS DOWN:

If you love cheesy movies that have predictable endings and make you cringe and laugh at the same time, this movie is for you. I have to admit the twist in this one was unexpected and gross. There are some leaps of logic for sure, no amazing twists or big reveals. The characters are broadly drawn, especially the villain. A lot of time is spent with the family saying “Stop, Jamie, just stop”, which is quite annoying.

VERDICT:

Perfect nail biter for nights when you just want to run from your own problems while watching someone else run headlong into theirs.
