Sauti Sol signs exclusive deal with Universal Music Africa

Kenya’s most successful boyband, Sauti Sol, are on a new high after signing a historic deal with Universal Music Africa (UMA).

"It's official! Our first major recording deal, Universal Music Group. Thank you guys for being patient. We really hope y'all are ready for the new album," posted the band on Instagram as they revelled in their exclusive pact with the subsidiary of Universal Music Group (UMG).

The album, slated for 2020 release and titled Midnight Rain, will be Sauti Sol’s first project with UMA.

"The year off has really been a steep learning curve. But I couldn't think of a better way to come back than this album. Sauti Sol fans are about to have a blast. I love you all," stated as the prospects with the global giant, rang true.

A position cemented by fellow bandmate Chimano, who cheered on Instagram, “Sauti Sol to the world!” as he noted that the album is off the hook, a classic for the ages.

 "Always wanted and wondered what it would feel like to be signed to a major! Well, it's official! Our first major label deal, Universal Music Group, you’ve been awesome and so supportive during this process thank you loads! Thank you guys for being patient. We really hope y'all are ready for the new album coz it slaps!!! I’m even shook myself!! Sauti Sol to the world," he wrote.

Midnight Rain will be the band’s fifth mega undertaking after dropping successful masterpieces; Mwanzo (2008 debut studio album), Sol Filosofia (2011), 2012 self-titled extended play and Live and Die in Afrika (2015).

Praising the partnership, Sipho Dlamini, the MD of UMG South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, patted Sauti Sol on the back for its innovative blend that has soared beyond Africa.

“We look forward to working together with them to ensure they are able to authentically celebrate Africa through music and to help introduce their unique blend Afro-pop to new listeners everywhere,” said Sipho Dlamini.
