Teacher Wanjiku laments frustrations from mainstream media

Celebrated comedian Carolyne Wanjiku Tharau popularly known as Teacher Wanjiku, has opened up about how mainstream TV and radio stations in Kenya continue to frustrate content creators.

In a lengthy Instagram post, the mother of two states that she is a firm believer of team work.

“I want to address an issue that @chipukeezy and @ericomondi have brought forward concerning TV and Radio Stations in kenya and how they have treated Us, you come to us asking for content we give it and you always frustrate Artists, I believe in team work if something is not working you go back on the drawing table and you start again not cancelling it,” she posted.

It all started when comedian Chipukeezy took to social media to announce his exit from Ebru TV. According to him, he had received an email from the station asking him to terminate his collaboration with Kartelo stating that because of his input, the show has become a bit ‘ghetto’.

Weighing on the issue, popular comedian Eric Omondi in a lengthy post as well, stated that the station often mistreated and frustrated Chipukeezy who hosted the weekly show alongside Kartelo.

He mentioned that he at one time witnessed watchmen harassing the comedian at the gate for carrying “vijana strange.”

“It is high time media houses started treating artists with due respect,” Eric wrote.

Teacher Wanjiku has also weighed in on the issue, revealing that she has not been on main stream media for years reason being 'not being good enough.'

“I haven't been on Main stream media for years reason being 'Not being good enough' Guess what, social media is the thing, if you have your content put it online, let people decide if they are interested or not, that's the way to go. I have been able to reach a very wide Audience with just online content and so many others,” she stated.

A seemingly frustrated Teacher Wanjiku went ahead to insinuate that she has been barred severally from talking about her shows while on live interview.

“For you who call for interviews and I can't even talk about my shows ati na 'advertise' when I have a show I want to let people know and I request for interviews I don't get! Then you call me way later ati you want me to talk about my life.  This is my life; my job is to create and entertain people. Take it or leave it,” she posted.
