Former MP ‘assaulted by cop after asking for directions’

News
Former Gatundu North MP Clement Kung’u Waibara.

A former Member of Parliament has accused a traffic police officer of assaulting him after asking for directions.

According to former Gatundu North MP Clement Kung’u Waibara, he had approached the officer asking for directions to Kenyatta National Hospital.

The former legislator said that he, alongside three other occupants were on their way from Ongata Rongai when they stopped at the Lang’ata Road-Mbagathi Way junction to ask for directions.

“It was at night and I was heading from work towards Kenyatta National Hospital when I saw a police officer and decided to ask for directions. I stopped the car by the roadside and called the officer who was busy directing traffic but he did not hear,” said Waibara.

‘Unprovoked’ attack

Waibara said that he then walked up to the police officer who allegedly started slapping and pushing him away.

“He hit me several times and did not bother to listen to me,” claimed Waibara, who is said to have sustained injuries on his left cheek and eye.

The ex-MP further said that another police officer intervened and rescued him. He has since reported the matter at Lang’ata Police Station.

Nairobi Area Police Boss Philip Ndolo could not be reached for comment.
