Carmine Caridi has died at the age of 85.

The actor was best known for his role as Carmine Rosato in the first Godfather sequel.

As well as starring in the legendary Godfather trilogy, Caridi also had several high profile TV appearances.

He had roles in Starsky and Hutch, Taxi and Fame and also played Detective Vince Gotelli in NYPD Blue.

After starring in The Godfather Part II in 1974, Caridi returned for Part III, but in a different role playing Albert Volpe this time.

After more than six decades in showbiz, Caridi clocked up more than 100 acting credits.

He also gained notoriety for being the first person to be expelled from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences after sharing screeners.

US comedian Jimmy Kimmel referenced Caridi's expulsion during his Oscars 2018 opening speech - just months after Harvey Weinstein was also kicked out of the Academy.
