Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has revealed how Kisii Senator Prof Sam Ongeri saved his mother’s life mid-flight.
Appearing before the Senate Devolution committee over his political fights with Mombasa MCAs, an emotional Joho thanked Ongeri for the act while revealing he often prays for the former Kenyan ambassador to the UN Habitat.
“All of us have somehow benefited from his (Ongeri’s) hard work in our republic.
“Senator and I were once travelling to a foreign country then my mother fell ill four hours after take-off and we had nowhere to turn to.
“Senator Ongeri quickly came through for us and looked after my mother till we landed in Dubai where we sent her to hospital.
“Senator, I’ve never been able to thank you enough; I always pray for you,” said an emotional Joho.
Tiff with MCAs
Governor Joho was appearing before the committee over ongoing wrangles with Mombasa MCAs.
Speaking during the session, Joho denied being behind a plot to dissolve the County Assembly in protest to summonses issued to three County Executive Committee Members by the MCAs.
The governor denied sponsoring a lobby group to collect signatures to send home errant MCAs.
“We are not in a position to respond to political hearsay. As a senate, you have the mandate to defend devolution. Unfortunately, I do not know where you have picked that information from," Joho said.
