She’s one of the biggest celebrities in the world, but Kylie Jenner’s photo has just been overtaken - by an egg.

In a bizarre turn of events, the image of an egg has become the most liked image on Instagram.

The image was posted by account world-record-egg on 4 January, and has raked in over 25 million likes - 7 million more than Jenner’s image.

A caption with the image read: “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram.

"Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.”

Previously, the most liked image on Instagram was Jenner’s announcement that she'd had a baby, Stormi.

Thankfully, it seems that Jenner has taken the news pretty well.

In response, she posted a video on Instagram, showing her cracking an egg on the ground, captioned: "Kylie when she sees the world record egg account.”

We’re slightly baffled as to how, or why, the egg picture has attracted so many likes.

In October, we reported about a strange new Instagram trend, in which users post the same photo of a dull object every day.

Speaking to The Atlantic, a teen called Joey, whose account posts the same image of a cartoon cow every day, said: “If people see an account that is posting a toaster, for example, every day for no real reason, they see it as some ironic and funny thing.”

It's unclear if the egg popularity is linked to this trend - but we must admit it's a pretty egg-cellent stunt...
