Olympic swimmer Jason Edward Dunford is Kenya’s undisputed master of the butterfly and freestyle sprints.
However, like a hovercraft, Dunford is out of the water, literally.
The two-time Kenyan Olympian has air cushioned himself and is flying high with a new track Mbaya having been featured by Romantico – a Mexican born singer.
He now goes by the stage name Samaki Mkuu, a befitting moniker to his innumerable medals and skill.
The hot new single was uploaded on YouTube a day ago and has already garnered over six thousand views and favourable reviews.
Speaking to Swim Swam, Dunford stated that he met Romantico by chance and he invited him to try out the song.
“This song merges Genge, a hip-hop derivative that emerged from Nairobi and Reggaeton, a genre rooted in Latin America and the Caribbean, to form a brand new sound known as “Gengeton”.
“The man behind this new genre is Romantico who came to Kenya as Edgar Manuel Vargas Gallegos, a missionary representing the Mexican Catholic Church.
“Learning Swahili and English during his first year in Kenya, enabled him to start mixing Spanish, Swahili and English lyrics over the new gengeton beats he started creating in collaboration with Producer Rukuz, who arrived in Nairobi as Hubert Ndayisaba, a child of Rwanda,” he narrated to Swim Swam.
