The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has ordered for the prosecution of journalist Jacque Maribe and her fiancé Josephn Irungu over the killing of Monica Kimani.
According to the statement by the DPP on Tuesday, the conclusion was arrived at after he independently reviewed the evidence and finding it sufficient to warrant charges against the duo.
“I have therefore directed that they be immediately arraigned before the High Court and charged accordingly. I am satisfied that there exists a prima facie case to warrant criminal prosecution … for the offence murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code.
“I have therefore directed that they be immediately arraigned before the High Court and charged accordingly,” the statement read.
Irungu was arrested on September 25 as a prime suspect in Monica’s gruesome murder before Maribe’s arrest five days later.
Monica was discovered dead in a bathtub by her brother after missing a flight to Dubai on September 19.
Probe moves to Mombasa
According to The Standard, detectives investigating the murder flew to Mombasa on Sunday looking for the murder weapon and a suspect.
According to a detective, “the team is pursuing information on a person of interest at the coastal county” after getting “good leads.”
So far, detectives are believed to have interrogated 15 people in connection with the murder.
