Rappers Gidi Gidi and Maji Maji are set to make a comeback to the music industry after a 16-year hiatus.

The dynamic duo, which gave Kenyans great hits such as Atoti, Unbwogable and Ting Badi Malo in the early 2000s, will reunite during the Safaricom Twaweza Live concert at the Kisumu Show Ground on Saturday, August 25.

Unbwogable final rehearsals, Kisumu are you ready? This Saturday at the Showground. GidiGidi and MajiMaji at the Safaricom Twaweza Live,” GidiGidi captioned a video on social media giving fans an inside look of how their performance will sound.

"After final rehearsals. We are now sure! Radar is clear. Gidi gidi and Maji maji. Follow for video snipets of what to expect,” said Maji Maji.

While older Kenyans might be really excited by their announcement, younger generations, who now identify with the two icons differently, might be lost on why there's all the fuss and hype.

Gidi Gidi and Maji Maji even mentioned this during one of their recent rehearsals.

"So one of our band members was in class one when Ting Badi Malo was released. Today, 20 years later, she's rehearsing with us as BGV for our upcoming show on 25th August," said Maji Maji.

The two icons now work in radio. Gidi Gidi is a popular radio host thanks to his show Patanisho on Radio Jambo that he co-hosts with former Harambee Stars coach Jacob Ghost Mulee.

Maji Maji is the Managing Director at Ghetto Radio.

While Gidi Gidi has stayed almost entirely out of the music business for the better part of the 16 years, Maji Maji has managed to sneak in a song or an interview here and there.

Maji Maji is also set to release a new song on September 1 that features a former street kid turned artist called Kobole after taking him under his wing.

The duo enjoyed huge success after releasing Unbwogable.  The reputable Gallo Record stable, an international music stable with a branch in South Africa, came calling after the song with a major recording deal, the first of its kind for a local youthful group.
