A thief pretending to be singer Daddy Yankee walked away with $2.3 million dollars (Ksh 231 million) in jewels from the reggaeton star’s hotel room safe in Spain during his Spanish tour.

Yankee, who is known for his popular song Despacito was out of his hotel in Valencia when it happened according to his representatives.

The 41-year-old's representatives, Nevarez PR, confirmed the robbery in a Tweet and also through other news agencies.

"Daddy Yankee’s press office confirms that the artist has been a victim of theft while he was away from his hotel in Valencia, Spain. A law firm has already been hired and no further statements will be made so as not to hinder in any way the investigation of the Spanish State Security and Forces Corps," Nevarez PR said.

Different sources have reported that the singer had stashed an assortment of jewels and diamonds in a safe in his.

The man posing as the singer asked a hotel employee to open the safe before leaving with the belongings.

The man also took jewels and cash from other hotel rooms where Daddy Yankee’s crew were staying.

Daddy Yankee will continue with his Dura tour in Martigues, France.
