Hollywood director Tony Goldwyn in Kenya

News

Popular Hollywood producer, actor and director Tony Goldwyn is in the country. Famed for his role in the TV series, Scandal, Goldwyn is in Kenya to discuss the possibility of shooting a film.

The American actor is in the company of Jamal Joseph, a renowned film director and scriptwriter to lay the ground work for a love story that started in Kibera.

The film is a book to screen adaptation of New York Times Bestseller, Find Me Unafraid. The book which has captured the attention of creatives, may have the notable directors discuss the possibility of translating the same into a movie.

The story follows two lovebirds, Kennedy and Jessica in almost a fairy tale fashion. Kennedy is a man from Kibera who married an American woman by the name Jessica.

“The story of Kennedy and Jessica Odede is captivating one. I was connected to Kennedy through a friend who gave me the book and after reading it, I decided I wanted to do the job myself (producing the movie). I am committed in seeing that it’s done to not only entertain, but to also speak something important of social impact,”  Goldwyn was quoted saying while at the Kenya Classification Board Offices at Uchumi House, Nairobi, where the producer was received by the CEO, Ezekiel Mutua.

“I am delighted to host these two Hollywood stars and to support their decision to make the film on Kennedy and Jessica’s love story here in Kenya,’’ Mutua said.

‘’We are in discussions with the two American filmmakers, the Odedes and the team around this production to see how the government can support their efforts to shoot Find Me Unafraid here in Kenya by creating a conducive environment that will enable the project to make business sense and bring glory to the film industry in Kenya,” Mutua added.

If all goes to plan, the Odede’s love story on how they met, fell in love and started one of the biggest charity organizations in the country by the name ‘Shining Hope For Communities’ (SHOFCO), will be told on big the screen.

SHOFCO is a community-based organisation that catalyses large-scale transformation in urban slums by providing critical services, community advocacy platforms and education.

With a huge impact in the country, the organisation currently serves more than 250,000 Kenyans across different slums
