Kenyan football fans are gearing up to welcome and see first-hand the 2018 FIFA world cup trophy in after it lands in Nairobi later today from Ethiopia.
Upbeat and enthusiastic, most fans will have their eyes trained on the six kilogram solid gold trophy that will bring the world to a standstill for over a month as 32 countries battle for it.
But here is what many people do not know about the jet tasked to transport the gold trophy across the world
Colour inspiration:
The plane is decorated with vibrant colours to reflect the spirit of the host nation. In 2018, the jet has been liveried with red, white, black and gold colours ahead of the 2018 tournament in Russia.
Luxurious high-end jet:
The 2014 Brazil trophy tour jet was a 40-passenger McDonnell Douglas (MD) 83 aircraft. This time round the organizers have gone big acquiring a Titan Airways’ Boeing 737-33A (QC) G-POWC.
The jet that prides itself as UK's most prestigious charter airline boasts a comfortable and luxurious 130 seat capacity.
Unusual plane setup:
According to Dawn.com, the Boeing is divided into three sections: The first section is branded with the maps to all the places the trophy will tour and football paraphernalia.
The second hosts the staff while the third will host delegations from each country it will tour such as Kenya’s Betty Kyallo.
VIP seating
According to Coca Cola, trophy is ‘housed on the plane and the seats at the front of the cabin have been removed to serve as a trophy presentation area for the press, government officials and VIPs.’
Destinations
The Boeing will tour 91 cities across 51 countries and six continents including Nairobi later today before heading to Maputo, Mozambique on Tuesday.
