Besieged Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe’s son Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe has hailed his father’s decision to defy expectations.
President Robert Mugabe, who was expected to resign on Sunday 19th instead pledged to preside over a congress by ruling party ZANU-PF next month. This is despite the ruling party removing him as its leader hours earlier.
In his statement, the 21-year-old Chatunga argued that ZANU-PF was nothing without Mugabe.
Chatunga, who is Mugabe's youngest son recently received backlash from social media after sharing a video of himself pouring a Sh24,456 bottle of champagne on his diamond-encrusted watch worth Sh6 million.
Zimbabwe’s ruling party ZANU-PF had given Mugabe less than 24 hours to quit as head of state or face impeachment, an attempt to secure a peaceful end to his tenure after a de facto coup.
