Pretty and brilliant: Female lawyers impress at the Supreme Court

Two brilliant female lawyers are making a huge step at the Supreme Court making a case for their clients Ng'ania Melissa and Julie Soweto have captivated the nation with their eloquence, delivery and sheer determination to make their case They follow on the footsteps of Kethi Kilonzo in 2013 who arguably made an impact and inspired a generation

In 2013, one female lawyer trail blazed a powerful delivery at the Supreme Court of Kenya that captured the nation catapulting her to instant stardom.

Kethi Kilonzo, brilliant and eloquent, made a mark and it was not lost to many Kenyans watching the presidential petition five years later to make comparisons as two other female lawyers battled it out during the Supreme Court hearings.

First on the stand on Tuesday the 14th was Ng'ania Melissa, probably the youngest female lawyer in the 2017 presidential petition.

Ngania was in the company of senior counsels Fred Ngatia, Ahmednassir Abdullahi and lawyer Tom Macharia and were representing President Uhuru Kenyatta in the petition filed by Raila Odinga.

Ngania, who was admitted to the bar in 2011 did not disappoint with her grasp of law as she brilliantly took on other outstanding legal minds in the country while making her submissions.

Second in tow on Wednesday the 15th was Julie Soweto.

Soweto is in court representing activists Njonjo Mue and Khelef Khalifa, alongside city lawyer Harun Ndubi.

The alumni of Kenya High School runs her own law firm Soweto & Company Advocates and boasts a stellar resume having acquired a master’s degree in law from the University of Pretoria.

She holds an LLB from the University of Nairobi.
